The saying: 'An apple for the teacher' is as old as the hills and I often wondered why an orange wasn't the gift of choice. Is it because back-in-the-day oranges were more expensive or just hadn't been invented yet? Balancing homework and all the jobs I had to do as a kid eventually ended up as a paint brush straddling one of each. Printing practice turned into full blown doodling which made a lot more sense than arithmetic (now more commonly know as math). Thank god they hadn't come up with that as a phrase. You do it.
